worse is how the misinformation is institutionalized.my little cousin recently took a test for anatomy and physiology (part of her nursing course) and the professor is telling them thc causes permanent memory loss and brain damage, heart attack, and so forth. Also he says its a vasoconstrictorr, and even though I explained to her its not, even bringing it to the most basic level of asking her why she thinks people get red eyes, and how does she think it can cure headaches and lower blood pressure and be a vasoconstrictor and not a vasodilator , she heard it from a source of authority an she believe it and will tell others once she is a nurse. This is the misinformation we are up against. Not just simple propaganda, but misinformation and lies, cleverly disguised as real, genuine medical and scientific information and distributed to people who in many other respects are rational intelligent people, but you tell them thc makes your liver fail and a person takes it as the gospel without questioning.

Actually, I think that's a healthy plan for just about anyone. I avoid nearly all sensationalistic news, and try only to skim the broad outlines of national political topics. I firmly believe that one of the reasons society is so screwed up is that people get an unrealistic sense of probability of bad things happening to them. Just as many bad things used to happen in the "good old days", but they didn't get instant national press.If one lives their life on a daily dose of bad news, it's inevitable they get a skewed view of world. It's just depressing. |
