Higgs is not the most interesting thing that LHC could do... if it actually DID produce a microscopic blackhole and detect the decay of it, it would do two things... first get Hawking a Nobel, and secondly it would provide the first really strong experimental evidence that string theory, and particular the theory that only open strings are tied to the 3-brane, and loop strings aren't, is in fact true. LHC doesn't have enough power to produce a black hole otherwise, or at least the theory goes.
